La première mondiale de » SUGAR HILL The Ellington / Strayhorn Nutcracker », la réimagination jazzée de Casse-Noisette basée sur la collaboration de Duke Ellington et Billy Strayhorn, fera ses débuts au Benedum Center for the Performing Arts de Pittsburgh du 24 au 29 octobre 2023. La production sera ensuite présentée au New York City Center (131 W 55th St.) du 21 au 26 novembre 2023 et à l’Auditorium Theatre de Chicago du 19 au 30 décembre 2023. Il s’agit d’une nouvelle interprétation glamour et jazzée de l’histoire classique, à travers les yeux d’une jeune héroïne noire, avec un ensemble musical et de danse diversifié. Ce conte est agrémenté de l’histoire méconnue mais essentielle de la collaboration entre Duke Ellington et Billy Strayhorn et de leur arrangement de la partition intemporelle de Tchaïkovski, qui a défié les codes du genre.
The World Premiere of SUGAR HILL The Ellington/Strayhorn Nutcracker, the jazz-steeped reimagining of The Nutcracker based on the genre-defying collaboration of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, will debut at Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center for the Performing Arts from October 24-29, 2023. The production will follow with runs at New York City Center (131 W 55th St.) from November 21-26, 2023 and Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre from December 19-30, 2023. This is a glamorous and jazzy new reimagining of the classic story through the eyes of a young black heroine, with a diverse musical and dance ensemble. This tale is enhanced by the little-known but essential story of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s collaboration and their genre-defying arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s timeless score.
